Have to say I’m pleased to see Biden in the #2 spot– He’s not my favorite guy, but he fills some gaps and he’s survived plenty of negative media attention. Several months ago, after the “articulate” remark, I never thought I’d be voting for this guy, but Obama and his people must be confident he’s the right guy despite all of that. Classy! I just with I would have heard it from Obama first– I didn’t my email until this afternoon. I thought I was an insider.

Ran what felt like a sluggish 5 today, but turns out my speed was right about what it needed to be. It was eerily cool out, but the humidity was so high that it seemed like raindrops were forming right above the ground. I can probably blame some of the sluggishness on the fact that Kelly and I were out late last night.

Anyway, my Saturday runs are supposed to be harder runs at marathon pace, and since I’m aiming for 8 minute miles at the marathon in NYC, my splits were pretty much in line (if you accept that mile one was slower due to negotiating the crowd and traffic on Union Street and the Prospect Park farmer’s market):

Mile 1: 8:25
Mile 2: 7:23
Mile 3: 7:52
Mile 4: 7:54
Mile 5: 7:25

I’d like to be more consistent, but I’d also like to bring them all a bit closer to 7:40. Once I get used to running at that pace, I think I’ll be less likely to go out too fast like I did in Buffalo.

Oh, and you’ll notice that I had no heart rate on this run– not because I died, I just forgot my HRM strap.

This guy, I saw on News 8 Austin this morning, missed the deadline to be included on the ballot for the soon-to-be-vacant Place 1 on the Austin City Council by one minute. They don’t quote him in the web version of the story (or even mention him, for that matter), but on the TV version, he said something along the lines of: I understand the need for deadlines, but there’s deadlines, and there’s common sense. I’m running a common-sense campaign.

I would think that the first priority of a common-sense campaign would be to actually appear on the ballot, with not coming off like an incompetent whiner on TV being a close second. I hope they post the clip, it got a little ugly.

I guess we’ll have to rely on someone else to protect our property rights.
